One racing organization will not allow it's members to use straps to tie down their race cars even in enclosed trailers, doesn't matter what the straps are made of or rated at, straps stretch and FAIL! From what i can read, they need at minimum tied at 4 corners with tie downs whose combined working load limit equals at least 1/2 the weight of the machine. I can't find a single reg that requires chains and binders. You may need more than 4 tie downs to get to 1/2 the WLL of the ties. We run 1 on the back connected through both corners (or a center tie down if there is one available) and another 1 on the front through both corners and run them away from the machine at angles. Binders should always to on the drivers side of the trailer so you can see if they come loose. On the front the chains go over the attachment holding it down. Load binders on both rear (loader) chains and pull the ones on the oposite ends tight. Tie load binder handle shut.
