How to tension the drive chain on a New Holland LS170 skid steer. This is a pretty simple job to do on most skidsteers. Just loosen the axle housing bolts, slide it back to tension the chain, and zip everything back up. I d. Its a shame the newer bobcats don't have adjustments for the chains. I remember my old 731 that had no adjustment, you could hear the chain slapping in the chain case every so often.

Both manuals show a spec of 0-1/4" wheel rotation and I've got 3/8" at all 4 wheels. From those in the know, is that 1/8 inch excessive enough to bother with or should I let. Too tight and its hard on the bearings, If I have the case open , I will adjust each chain to where I have about an 1/2" deflection in the lower section of chain. The adjustment nut will take an inch of slop out with just a turn or two.After the initial chain adjustment,tighten the locking nut and check the deflection again.
The brake adjustment is a real pain. Tilt the seat and you will see that the linkage pulls up on arms mounted on the wheel motors.When the brake pads wear the arms run out of travel. You need to loosen the arm that is on the wheel motor, and . Rotate the wheels in opposite directions until the chain is tight while holding the rear wheel stationary. Rotate the front wheel to determine the chain slack. This chain slack should be checked at four different positions by rotating the wheels and checking slack at 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees to find the postion with the least amount of slack. Don't try to get the chains "tight" as this will kill the chains and bearings. If the 1816 is like the bigger Cases, the nuts holding the axle housings will need to be loosened. There should be an adjuster screw to move the housing. If the housing runs out of travel on the chain case studs (assuming housing slots are clean) then it is new chain . Case 420 chain adjustment. . The 400 series loaders go by turn of wheel for chain slack, calling for approximately 1/4" of wheel turn at the treads. hi has anyone had experiance adjusting the drive and clutch chains on the M610,did it all as the book stated but then couldnt get the side covers back on, one clutch "shaft"( the part the cap screws on too) on each side is out by maybe 1.5 - 2 mm, didnt want to force it and damage the threads.
