I was considering a Predator engine, due to the fact I paid way too much already for a machine with a bad engine, and a leaky torqmotor. Anyhow, I'm not too sure about Predator engine quality. Part of me is considering going full retard, and making this thing all nice again, chains, sprockets, and a 22-25hp Kohler Command or something. I've been looking at a predator motor at harbor frieght, its 22 hp v-twin basicly its a knock off honda motor. I'm sure i'll have to do some fabricating to make work. I'm wondering if anyone has any advise. i've already searched though the forum reading everyone else's swaps but no one has used one of these motors. I recently purchased a case 1816b (for 0!) the skid has a tecumseh OH160 on it right now. I would like to throw on one of them predator engines on it (the tecumseh is on its way out and I can t find parts).
It might be a little late to the party but an outfit called Performance 670 sells a flywheel adapter to attach a Kohler driveshaft to the predator engine. I just got one for a John Deere Ztrak engine swap, which had a blown up Kohler Command 20. In my PowerTrac PT425 I have a 25hp Kohler command pro that has two pumps on the output shaft side and the drive pump on the shaft coming out of the fan side. I'd suggest to ease your pain, if you can't rebuild the current engine, put in a new exact same engine. It will save you headaches in the long run with adapters, mounts, etc. These engines are fairly popular and should do the job well.
