Hemi, I have been using Cat 287's, 277's, and 257's since day one. What i like about them is the visability from the cab unlike the Mustang's or the Takuechi's where it is rather hard to see the edge of the bucket. Also another good feature of the Cat is the reach it has ( with the bucket angled down).

Price 23000.00 Will be using it for site work on my own home building project in the rocky soil of southern Maine. The 257B is a great machine. It's powerful and fast and its controls are VERY smooth. There really isn't a good comparison of this machine to the other tracked machines out there -- in a word, it's simply more refined. I owned a 257B for 2 and a half years and it was a pretty good machine. The weak point on them is the idler wheels on the under carriage. If your using something heavy on the front mine seemed to wreck bearings all the time. The only other problem I had was the head gasket. New to the group here and have only ran Bobcats but I am looking at a 2006 257B with 1500 hours. Tracks look good but I was wondering what the known issues.

Would be used to move snow, seed, and remove fence and brush. They are priced equally. The Deere has 300lbs more operating capacity. The rest of the tracked machines by Cat are good machines if that's what you're looking for. However, they are more maintenance intensive when compared to other brands with rigid undercarriages vs. the suspended carriage. In short, I would not recommend a 257 to anyone, there are better options from Cat and others as well. The CAT dealer says the 259D3 will burn ~1.5gallon less per hour than the T66. It is also rated at 8.5mph in 2spd vs 10.2mph in the Bobcat which is a win for Bobcat in my opinion. Any feedback on these items or anything else would be greatly appreciated.
