I’m interested in a used machine in the 10,000 to 12,000 pound range. Bobcat, John Deere or Kubota are carried by local dealers but no used ones on the lot. It would be used for conservation work and repair. I was wondering which is the best excavator is. The size would be around a JD 50D, a Cat 305, or any other machine in that weight class. I plan on using it for puting in pipes and drains, demoing, slopes and whatever else comes in my path. One advantage Bobcat has is most of their mini excavators use the X-change bucket coupler so attachments interchange between a lot of machines and most Bobcat dealers have a decent selection of attachments in their rental fleet.

After several weeks of beating around marketplace, I came across a post for a brand-new Chinese mini excavator. It's a 1-ton class excavator. I assume you’ve made a decision by now but I definitely recommend a tractor with front end loader and a separate mini ex. Used machine prices are pretty high right now but you can find a decent one in that k range you seem to be looking at.
