Before I had a dozer or excavator I had a skid steer. Found out real fast that just a skid steer was limited as just a mini ex is limited. If you live in a booming area with lots of new home construction than just one machine could work. Find a niche and stick to it like retaining walls, concrete work, or pavers. I have a Cat 416C tlb, and a mini/skid steer combination. If I had to choose one or the other I think I would go for the tlb. My mini/skid combo is made up of a 12,000# Bobcat 435ZHS and an8,000# A300 (all wheel steer AND skid steer depending on switch position). In North Carolina you can get a Class A Non-CDL license to pull over 10k. It is meant for farmers, pulling large boats, and personal use hauling. You have to take the CDL written test and then a normal driving test with your truck / trailer. I just got my Class A Non-CDL to haul my 12k excavator from the house to some of our land. i have seen guys pull an s185 bobcat with a 1/2 ton a s250 bobcat with a half ton and a guy tried to come get a t320 with forestry cutter with a toyota tundra 1/2 ton and a two axle steel deck trailer with no trailer brakes that machine alone weights 10,000 plus all the extra protection put on and the cutter your around 14,000 -15,000 and our rental counter asks us .
Then, I discovered that my local Anderson Equipment dealer had taken on Mecalac, & they had 2 machnes in stock to look at, a 6 MCR & a 8 MCR (that's Mecalac Crawler Radial best I can figure).
