Yeah, it's been kind of a battle around here for the last 10 yrs or so. Nobody had a problem paying -95 per hour for a good skid steer, but complain, complain, complain when getting the bill for a 200 excavator for 5. But, when fuel started going up, mouths stayed shut. Now, it has pretty much been accepted. A guy struggles around here to get .00 to .00 an hour and seems line 95% of the customers dont want to give you anything for traveling to and from there site even if it is over an hour away. Theres too many people around here laid off willing to work for .00 to .00 an hour and charging nothing extra for fuel or travel time to the site.
We have a JD 4400 with all the toys. We charge 5 per hour when we supply the operator. 0 without the operator, but we only do that if we know the person. We always make money and are rarely turned down. If they don't want to pay for the tractor I simply get a crew of 5 or 10 and charge per hour for each man I have on the job.
I charge per hour more then a truck. One thing you can also do is find out what the local rent all company rents one for and then factor in an operator. In my area an hour, but I dont exactly jump for joy if someone calls and says they need an hour worth of work. Might want to do something like cheaper per hour but 2 hour minumum.
